My Life, Your Life: Why does it exist?

What can amuse a man? What can save him from his misery? What can conquer his fears? What can wreck his anxiety? What? What? What? Perhaps a pot of gold will do- To buy him all the world. Nope, a pot of soup may suffice- To fill his empty stomach; Better; power of whatever kind- To massage his ego. My mind tell me, I crave for an answer, Like the philosophers, I search for meaning to life's Unanswered questions: The questions within questions, The answer within answers, To life mysteries, miseries and hopes, Told infinitely by tale-bearers. Daily we wake up, Daily we grow, Daily we live, Daily we die. The rich cry, The poor groan, That which make us laugh, Sometimes make us weep; Success not an escape from solitary. Liberty is not an antidote to pain, Money not an insurance against misery, Power does not guarantee safety, Faith not an insulator against fate. So what is life itself, Your life, my life,

BRUTAI AND THE DUBAI HOUSE

Image
What is good for the goose is good for the gander goes an eternal English cliche, and on this I based my position as far the issue of ownership of house property in Dubai by the current Chief of Army Staff: Major T.Y.  Brutai  is concerned; yet I still feel there is much ado about this issue. Be that as it may, there is need for official investigation and consequent prosecution of Brutai if found culpable; but till then, he should be presumed innocence until proven guilty.  There is no question as to the ownership of the said property as the man in question has not denied the ownership of the said property; so what is in contention is the source of income he used in purchasing the property. This question has also been partially answered by the Army spoke-person (though I find this disturbing, as the Army is not the one being investigated here, rather, it is  Brutai  and he needs to respond in person). According to the Army spoke person, General T.Y.  Brutai  bought the

SARAKI: A HERO OR VILLAIN?

If my memory serves me right, the Nigeria 8th Senate is less than one year and a month old but it has been enmeshed in series of controversies, scandals and political hullabaloo perhaps than any other Senate since the emergence of democratic government in 1999. It all started with leadership tussle when some Senators on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by Senator Bukola Saraki connived with the opposition party: the People Democratic Party to throw away the wishes of the ruling party in whom become what in the Senate. Next to this is the shoddy manner and political intriguing that characterized the screening of the President Ministerial nominees. Equally, saddened scenario is the theatrical consideration of the 2016 budget in which new lexicons such as 'missing budget', 'budget padding', among others entered the Nigeria and Nigerians vocabulary. How about the official vehiclesgate? One issue however has refused to go away among all the issues

STAND FOR SOMETHING

Image
Our Father, we yearn for a better understanding of spiritual things, that we may know surely what Thy will is for us and for our Nation. Give to us clear vision  that we may know where to stand and what to stand for—because unless we stand for something, we shall fall for anything. - At the start of legislative sessions in the U.S. Senate a daily prayer is typically offered by the Senate Chaplain. On April 18, 1947 Chaplain Peter Marshall spoke the  words above. In the world we live today, it is practically becoming difficult and daunting to stand for something. In our everyday lives, as we go about our daily duties and lives, we are constantly faced with the need to be socially compliance and inclined. Suffice to say, living by principle, dedication and commitment to a cause is fast becoming a taboo; but time and time, has proven that those whose names have  resonated   for eternity  are men and women who stand for something, who will not be swayed by bad wagon effects. I

RESTRUCTURING THE NIGERIA STATE

Image
Over the years, there have been call and several calls on the need for the restructuring of the Nigeria State with the latest one coming from the mouth of erstwhile Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. In his words: “Some may say that we are saddled with more urgent challenges, including rebuilding our battered economy, creating jobs, fighting corruption and securing our people from terrorism and other forms of serious crimes. I believe, however, that addressing the flaws in our federation will help us address some of those very economic and security challenges facing this country.  Making that mistake might set us on the path of losing the country we love or, as Chido Onumah puts it, result in our ‘country sleepwalking to disaster." He further stated:  “An excessively powerful centre does not equate national unity. If anything, it has made our unity more fragile, our government more unstable and our country more unsafe . We must renegotiate our union in order to make i
