RUGA or COZA?

In the last few days, the social media have been awash with news on the Federal Government RUGA settlements for cattle, as well as the rape allegation (perhaps allegations now) of the Senior Pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (aka COZA) by the wife of one of Nigerian leading artistes - Bukola Dakolo. So many many things have been said and unsaid; but permit me to start with the first issue of RUGA. RUGA according to the Federal Government is a proposed agricultural policy meant to solve the problems of farmers / herders clashes while promoting livestock production of cattle in the country. To me, and with respect to the policy, the intention may good but its mode of implementation and implication on the Nigeria State I seriously have grouse with. Getting a portion of a land across the States exclusively reserved for Fulani herdsmen and their cattle in the name of peace is another time bomb waiting to explode. This is because previous experiences with this kind of arrangement

A GENERATION WITHOUT MORALS

A GENERATION WITHOUT MORAL VALUES Growing up, young ones aren't expected to look at elders in the face while talking, let alone reply. This is because it is counted as a sign of disrespect, but today teens and toddlers now possess the temerity and effrontery to dare the elders and call up their bluffs. Unfortunately, many parents and grown up now see such audacity as product of civilization and 'confidence building' in their children. It's therefore not surprising that 'a cowboy' can dragge seat with our very revered and cerebral Professor of Literature, Prof.  Akinwande Oluwole Soyinka in the airplane.  To me, it is the heights of apocalypse moral decadence and degeneration of our society. Perhaps, it would not have mattered if the guy was just one insane among many, but to see that some young persons and adults are justifying such abnormality is one that calls for concerned. How did we get here? What happened to our moral codes? Where are all the values we

Nine Types of Intelligence by Howard Gardner

Image
9 Types Of Intelligence  There was a time, the only two types of intelligence known to humanity is Mathematical / logical intelligence and Linguistics Intelligence, but experience and theories have proven otherwise today.  In 1983 an American developmental psychologist Howard Gardener described 9 types of intelligence   [1] : Naturalist  (nature smart) Musical  (sound smart) Logical-mathematical (number/reasoning smart) Existential  (life smart) Interpersonal  (people smart) Bodily-kinesthetic   (body smart) Linguistic  (word smart) Intra-personal  (self smart) Spatial  (picture smart) What other scientists thought were just soft-skills, such as interpersonal skills, Gardener realized were types of intelligence. It makes sense. Just as being a math whiz gives you the ability to understand the world, so does being “people smart” give you the same ability, just from a different perspective. Not knowing math you may not calculate the rate at which

SANWO-OLU IS HERE, SANITY IS BACK

SANWO-OLU IS HERE, SANITY IS BACK If I say I'm impressed with certain decisions that have been made by the duo of His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Femi Hamzat; I'm no doubt saying the obvious since their inauguration on May 29, 2019. While it may be too early to appraise their performance, but my people always say: omo toba ma se amodun, eyin kise la ti mo (a child would grow to see the next year, can be discerned from his heel). Apologies if I didn't interpret the prpverbs lucidly. The truth is this new Government has began on a good footings by mapping out clear cut of action for itself. The Executive Order on Traffic Management and Environment management is just too apt at this time in Lagos. Apart from the proclamation, the steps that have been taken by the Governor to back it up like the arrest of the commercial bus driver driving against traffic, visitation to Olusosun Dumpsite and Apapa gridlock are equally signs of good o

LEST DEVELOPMENT BECOMES A TABOO IN OUR COUNTRY

I was born with hope like many of you fellow Nigerians. I remembered now with nostalgia singing the National Anthem and Pledge with enthusiasm on the Assembly Grounds from my elementary classes to Secondary Schools; yes, I went to two secondary schools - one in Ekiti State, another one in Lagos State. Well, this is another story for another day. In our classes, especially history and social studies classes, we were taught about the exploits of great leaders like the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Herbert Macaulay, Anthony Enahoro, Dr Namid Azikwe, Tafawa Balewa, Ahmodu Bello, King Jaja of Opobo, the Aba Women Riots, the Ransome Kutis, just to mention a few. Their stories were inviting, their exploits were invigorating, their deeds were rooted in selfsacrifice; and one cannot but hope to emulate them. Then came the ' coups and the counter coups' and the Civil War as my sitting President would like to put it. It seems our development stride nosedived from then on; because, all e
