POLITICS: NO RESPECTER OF RACE OR CREED

In the last twenty-four hours, I've watched and read intensely the ongoing events and activities at the 2016 Republican Convention in the United States of America; and one sore point I have found appalling is the tendency for the present gladiators in the race to resort to name-calling and personal attacks rather than issue based-politics.

One major issue that Donald Trump and his team have used against Hilary Clinton is her inglorious role in Benghazi as regarding the US troops. On the other hand, Hilary Clinton and her team have consistently spoke about the controversial nature of Donald Trump of which the later is perhaps proud of.

While Donald Trump has promised that the convention will be an unusual one and the events in the last 24 hours have proven so, indeed, from the use of 'We are the champions' song' without permission to the plagiarized speech given by Melania Trump. While anybody can make mistake, the quality of a good leader is the ability to accept responsibility for such mistake.

It is however surprising that instead of Donald Trump team accepting their failure, they
have resulted to demonizing Hilary for the social media rants against Trump's wife for plagiarizing Mitchel Obama speech of 2008; and this reminds me of the politics in my country where most of the time is personal vendetta against opponents. I wish an average American will see that Donald Trump may not be trusted with power because a man who lies to get a job, will equally lie to keep the job. Sincerely, this is quite unusual of the US politics have read about and followed since I became fascinated in politics. Unfortunately, the 2016 Republican Convention might as well be declared as dead on arrival whether Donald Trump and his team admit the glaring error or not as shown in this video via: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg0qisnX21E.

One cannot equally forget quickly of number of verbal attacks against the present President and the immediate out-gone president of Nigeria. The question however should politics be all about name-calling or issue-based?

Ideally speaking, it should be issued based since politics and election is about contest of ideas of which the best ideas should win the day; but in practice, politics is often about personal attacks and demonizing of perceived opponent(s) with a view to win the sentiment of eligible voters to one side. In the end, the people who lose is the average electorate who lose for not reading between the line and asking the right question.

Essentially, every aspirants of political parties' candidate deserves to be scrutinized based on where they are coming from, what they can do, and how they intend to do it; but an average electorate hardly do this either because of ignorance or sheer laziness.

Finally, on the on-going US Debate, what if the Melania's Speech scandal is deliberate to get the attention of the Americans since Donald Trump has been rising on the wings of controversy; and or a work of mischief-maker(s) collaborating with the other candidates to undermine the chance of Donald Trump presidency? Don't mind me, am just playing the devil advocate here. A lesson must also be learnt that attention to details count, otherwise, one may become subject of global ridicule for this misstep might have been avoided if due diligence have been undertaken.
