ATIKU IN AMERICA: So, What the Fuss?

I'm kind of bewildered and disturbed at the jubilations and celebrations that have been displayed by the Atikulators and the People Democratic Party over the news of their presidential candidate: Alhaji ATIKU Abubakar. To me, it is the height of nonsense, mental paralysis, political jingoism, and mundane display of affection.

How on Earth do a people celebrate the traveling of a presidential candidate to America as an achievement? It is nothing but a demonstration of colonial mentality.

Without taking it away from the USA as the most powerful nation in the world despite rogue tendencies of their current President, the truth is, there are many burning issues that should occupy the front burners of our national politics and polity than the ability of a presidential candidate to travel abroad.

Will the traveling of Atiku bring down the inflationary rate? Will it reduce the number of unemployed graduates on the streets? Will it lead to the growth of GDP and GNP? Will it enhance the per-capita-income of an average Nigerian? Will it curb the insecurity in the land arising from Boko Haram insurgency, militancy in the Niger Delta and Kidnapping in Ondo and Ekiti State? Will it brings about state of the art infrastructure facilities? Will it put food on the table of the hungry and provide shelters to the homeless?

Can Atiku travel to America reduce the rate of dollars to naira? Can it brings about restructuring we have all be clamouring for? Can Atiku travel to America brings an end to incessant strikes by #ASUU and the Nigeria Labour Congress?

Woe is to a people who leave the substance of things to pursue triviality. I'm indeed saddened and disturbed by our mundane level of reasoning and glorification of nonsense. It is very appalling that in the 21st century, what one of the leading candidates to the highest office in the land and his supporters will be celebrating is the ability to travel to the United States. It is a sorry state.

It is time we rise above this level of mediocrity in our national life. As this year election draws closer, all of us must put on the glass of patriotism to elect only the credible candidates at all facets of governance.
