NIGERIA IS FAILING!

Nigeria is failing but I hate to admit it. Why? I'm an incurable believer in the Nigeria project. I love Nigeria passionately, such that I've had course to weep on some occasions because of the abnormalities and complexities that pervade our daily lives as a people and as a nation. To say Nigeria is blessed is to be understating.

At present, Nigeria is the sixth largest country in the world, most populous country in Africa and country with the highest number of black people in the world. Nigeria population is not only large, but youthful. Nigeria at present has the highest number of young people all over of the world with over 65% of the population being below forty years.  (US Census 2021). We are equally blessed with rich mineral deposits. Thus, there seems no reason why we should fail.

Like my people will say: omo o mo iwe, e so pe oni good handwriting! Nigeria is a classical case of this adage. It is appalling that despite this huge population, we are none where economically. The country has one of the highest numbers of poor people in the world and ranked 146th out of 163 countries as one of the countries prone to insecurity, chaos and conflict. We are more disunited today than the days of our forefathers.

Insecurity has risen to the highest level possible to the extent, bandits now have the effrontery to attack our Defence Academy. It's a slap on our collectivity, and not just the Commander-in-Chief, though the buck stops at his table; but many of us still goes about as if nothing is amiss. In the last one year, over two thousand have been kidnapped either for going to school, going to their farmlands or just traveling to their home towns. What a mess we are in!

One out of every three young people I meet today want to japa, yet we continue to dance 'Azonto' or 'Coming'. The madness going on is unimaginable but I still hope the roof does not fall on us all.
