WHY YOU MUST VOTE

WHY YOU MUST VOTE

I can give you one thousand and one reasons on why you must vote, but I've decided to give just five reasons here.

1. Politics especially democratic politics is a game of numbers. The person or party that has the highest number of votes carry the day. Don't buy into the idea that your votes does not count. It does. Politicians need your votes as a mark of legitimacy and relevance. Please bury the thought and falsehood that your votes doesn't count. Elections can majorly be rigged where there is no overwhelming votes in support of a candidate or party.

2. Your vote is consequential. It will determine the amount you buy bread in the market, whether Agege or ShopRite bread. It will determine the amount you paid as house rents, the school fees you pay for yourself and children, the number of children you have, the cost of living, the amount of people that depends on you for survival, the price of beer and fun you're able to have. Just name it, everything you do is a reflection of government policies. It's the people you elect who in turn makes those policies.

3. Your vote affects generations yet unborn. Please vote even if not for yourself but because of your born and unborn children. Your vote will determine the kind of society they will live in: safe or unsafe. The kind of school you can afford to put them in, the quality of life they will live, the kind of jobs they get or not, their freedom and rights in the society, the amount of debt they've inherited while they're still in the womb. Please vote for the sake of your children.

4. Your vote affects your citizenship and sense of self-esteem. It doesn't matter where you travel to, or nationalize, your country of birth or heritage will determine to a large the extent of how people first perceived you. The westerners are respected here because of the value place on them by their society and government. No nation can lay hands on an American without paying for it, directly or indirectly. Please vote to elect leaders who will make Nigeria great again.

5. Your vote affects your job and business. Getting job easily is a function of the availability of jobs which is a reflection of several factors: the state of the economy however remain central. Today, there is high inflation in the country, unemployment/underemployment rate like never before. Companies are shutting down and downsizing. It either gets better or get worse. Your vote will determine to a large extent if it gets better or worse. Whether you have stability in your chosen job, your vote will determine. Whether your business flourishes, your vote will determine. Whether approval for your business is given as at when due, your vote will determine. Whether, you've to pay through your nose to get contract or a document from government institution, your vote will determine.

Please think very well as we go towards 2023:  to vote or not to vote. Think also the kind of leaders you will elect: those that will give you handouts to keep you underneath their cage or those that will empower you. Please think.

By the way, do you even have voter's card? If you don't have, you're one of the reasons why this country is as it is today, but it's not too late, you can still pre-enroll for INEC Nigeria voter's registration here: https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/home and also endeavor to go for complete INEC registration at the nearest office to you. Make the sacrifice today for yourself and the future of your children.
