THE MAN AND THE HORSE

Good day guys, this morning I woke up with a story in my mind. Perhaps, I have read or heard it somewhere, and or even a product of my fictional mind.  Longtime ago, there lived a man in the countryside of one of the Africa countries. He was stupendously wealthy and benevolent to both the rich and the poor, the great and the small, the old and the young. No one comes to his house for any need without receiving measures of his kindness.  There used to be a horse race competition among the town where he lived and other neigbouring towns. It is usual for his town to come last in such a race at a time until he traveled to the far east of Africa to buy one of the best horses there. Ever since he bought the horse, however, his town came first in all the competitions for over a decade. As the years passed by, the man and the horse grew older. So there was this particular competition, the man and the horse went to, of which the horse came last in the race competition. The...

THE FRAILTY OF MAN

Play by play, A child is born, Play by play, The child is no more. We are here in the morning, Gone in the afternoon, A wet cloak Sun dry by sunlight. Our moon hardly come up Then it’s soaked up By clouds of life Of day and night. Life is essentially a quest for something and nothing, A sojourn in paradise and wilderness, A game of chess and chest, A riddle and puzzle Shrouded in mystery, Sown in secrets, Savage by fate and faith Serendipity of eternity. All we are we are, All we will be we will be, Angels in flesh and blood, Adrenalin of Almighty.

Leadership Debacle

This country is in mess not because of want of good ideas and good men, but because of want of good men and women to take the bull by the horn by doing the needful. Every time I reminiscence about my fatherland, 'water of salt freely flows through my eyes', most times not feasible to onlookers but overwhelming enough to encumber my innocent eyes. I wish I’m crying about the past, at least I would take solace in the present. Maybe if it were even about the present alone, I would hold my head high for faith and hope in a better tomorrow. The truth is what I see is shams and shambles as I speak to men and women of my generation, the young and old, the enlighten and the illiterates, the leaders and the followers.  My people would normally say if one cannot find enough courage and means to continue a journey, at least one shall learn to retrieve back. In our case, none is desirable.  Every four years, the men of Palace and provinces come cap in hand to beg for votes...

KUDOS TO MRS KEMI ADEOSUN

Image
Man, by nature, is a fallible being. As such, mistakes are common occurrences in the life of every man and in the world of humanity. Thus, our grace is not in our not falling but in the courage to admit and make amendment where necessary.  Unfortunately, very few men and women have the virtue to do the needful when it matters especially in this part of our world.  Madam Kemi Adeosun, the immediate erstwhile Minister of Finance of the Federal Republic of Nigeria no doubt remains one of the shining lights of this administration in terms of sterling performance, and contribution to nation building. Her intellectual contribution in and out of the cabinet remains one of the positive reference points of the President Buhari Administration, and for this, I cannot but applaud her for it.  Specifically, her effort and team to get Nigeria out of chronic recession arising from mismanagement of our collective resources and oil glut in a short while, compared to ot...

Nigeria: A Nation Without Shame

This country is in mess, and may continue to be so for a long time except for something urgently is done. We live in a country where respect for values, morals, and sense of decency is vast becoming a taboo. The political class appears to be laying a despicable precedence which may, in the end, erode any shade of values and morals the country currently have.  How on earth for instance, will a serving Senator make this kind of statement - "I will show you my certificates when Buhari presents his O' Level  Certificate and Kemi Adeosun presents her NYSC certificate." - Senator Ademola Adeleke Osun PDP Gubernatorial candidate to APC Osun State"? It is the height of impunity. However, one may not blame him since certificate scandals have become a reoccurrence incidence within the Nigeria territory. One cannot easily forget for example the Salisu Buhari Toronto certificate's saga, the Fayose Polytechnic certificate's gate; the PMB WAEC result and the ...

THE PEN IS MIGTHIER THAN THE SWORD by DR TUNDE BAKARE

At the stroke of a pen, millions of Africans were “legally” transported across the Atlantic and Mediterraneunde Bakare Over the centuries, the phrase “the pen is mightier than the sword” has come to define the power of the written word in statecraft. Those words have since stepped out of the pages of Edward Bulwer-Lytton’s The Conspiracy, a play written in 1839, to become words on marble. At the heart of this notion of the might of the pen is the idea that the course of a nation or people can be determined at the stroke of a pen. Nations can be built, and nations can be ruined; generations can be made great, and generations can be rendered wasted; civilizations can be birthed, and civilizations can be buried – at the stroke of a pen! At the stroke of a pen, millions of Africans were “legally” transported across the Atlantic and Mediterranean and became the property of slave owners. At the stroke of a pen, the slave trade was abolished ...

STATE POLICING: TO BE OR NOT TO BE?

The need for government no doubt arises in the first place as a result of man inhumanity to humanity. Hence, it is often said the principal function of any government is the protection of lives and property. The events in Nigeria in the past months have left much to be desired. Killings and blood shedding is fast becoming commonplace in our fatherland. Unlike John Donne, the death of people no longer diminishes us because we hardly see them as part of humanity. We merely stroll by at the news of people's demise. What a shame! Indeed, rather than looking outside the box to find solutions to the senseless killings, we have resulted to name-calling, ethnoreligious war, political divisiveness. In the end, the right things have not been done. The resultant effect is needless loss of precious lives. While I have not been an absolute fan of this present National Assembly, and any government in particular (this is because my responsibility is not to defend any government except when th...
