How Much Does A Nigerian Life Worth?

Since yesterday, the social media has been agog with commentaries and vituperation arguments on the execution of three Nigerians found guilty of drug trafficking offences in Indonesia. Ordinarily, needless I need not add my own.

However, international law and paraphernalia appears to be one of the area of intellectual discourses am fascinated about in recent time. Please don't ask me, why I am interetested in the subject.

It is pertinent to ask why 14 people should be on a death row, but only four will be executed out of which three Nigerians were among. One, it questions our sense of morality, and criminals disposition in recent time. Secondly, it smacks of and make mockery of our diplomatic capacity. Am still wondering, if USA will allow three of its citizens to be publicly executed without ability to get some reprieve for them.

The question however is should we lay the entire blame on the government or the perpetrators of the crimes, I think both are guilty at charge. To the criminals, their inordinate desire and greed have sent them to their early graves, and further tanished our already battered international reputation. Suffice to say that more country cannot but be suspicious of us as drug carriers and pushers. What an image. Unfortunately, they have also created pains and agony in their hearts of their family and love ones. What a wasted destiny!

Be that as it may, before we hanged them in entirety, we must not forget the sorry state of our economy and country which hitherto has made hardworking people to be perceived as lazy and indolent because meritocracy has been sacrificed for mantocracy. Hardly can genuine and honest people take pride in their effort because in Nigeria it pays to make it anyhow and become overnight Father Christmas.

Indeed, many of these culprits would have stayed back if the economic situations was favourable and conducive for ingenuity. Unfortunately, it is not, more and more businesses are running out of operaations not for the fault of their own but for mismanagement and bastardization of the economy by those who supposed to be in the affairs of the nation.

Notwithstanding, some people would like to say the insalubrious socioeconomic situation of the country is not a leeway for misdemeanors as a lot of people in this country are still making it despite the hostile situation we find ourselves. One must however remind such people that our level of patience, and perspiration differ, hence, people who are desperate to get out of the hook cannot but do deaspirate stuff.

Nevertheless, here comes the lesson of the whole saga, as citizens we must be ruthlessly committed and dedicated to the progress of our country for if the citizens of other nations do not give their best to build their country we won't be running there let alone carrying heinous drug to such countries. On the other hand, the Nigeria govt must do more in the area of citizens diplomacy to ensure that the life of an average Nigerian counts!

God bless my country! God bless Nigeria!!
