The Worth and Dignity of a Nigerian

Dear reader, it is quite a long time I  have commented on global, national and local issues. It is a along time because so many things have happened, and yet it seems nothing is happening.

The time we are in are really not the best of time in our national life, and at the global level though ours seems to have reached a boiling point. Sometimes, it becomes hard to choose what to comment on, and what not to comment.

It is particularly appalling at the rate at which lives of people have been lose daily in the global world arising from man in inhumanity to humanity. Indeed, from psychopathic shooting by adolescent in a High School in Florida, USA to the mindless killing by Fulani Herdsmen militia; this is indeed is not a pleasant moment in the global community.

The Boko Haram menace is a source of concern and worry equally. As if this is not enough, about 50 Yobe school students have been kidnapped, when we are yet to recover about kidnapped 100 plus Chibok girls.

How about the numbers of needless death experienced on our highways arising from poor state of Nigeria infrastructure facilities, and the numbers of needless deaths in our hospitals due to lack of drugs and necessary facilities?

Without any attempt to blame the present government for all these woes, because most of these problems are inherited ones; yet, am of the view that this government can do more than it is currently doing.

For instance, I don't see any reason while this Government cannot build a State of the Earth hospital facilities that can stand at par with the Western ones in each of the geopolitical zones. Since, we are nation of ethnicity, two pilot ones can be selected- one in the North and one in the South until we have six of such in the whole of the country as a starting point. Subsequently, each State of the Federation will get theirs.

Am aware someone will say no money, and yet monkeys and snakes will see money to steal up to #70m and #36m respectively. I cannot but laugh like the former President would say. I guess an animal life is more valuable today than that of a Nigerian.

Nigeria is a mess it seems, but how long do we weep continuously? The time to regain Nigeria from needless usurpers and political and economic racketeers is now.

A new Nigeria of our dream is possible, but it will not come on a platter of gold, yet simple things you and I do can make a difference like your registering for your voter's card.

The question is how many of people complaining today have registered for their PVC, let alone will come out during the Election. Unfortunately, doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result is another definition for insanity.

How about you joining a people oriented movement, becoming a member of political party, and campaigning for people who you know can take this country to greater heights.

You are needed, do something today. This is because without such little effort from you, your life, my life and that of others Nigerians may mean little or nothing. My fear in particular is for the next generation.
