ONNOGHENGATE AND THE REST OF US

Tyranny , like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.          - Thomas Paine Since the outbreak of the news on the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen scandal about not proper declaration of his assets especially with respect to his operation of foreign accounts, so many commentators, opinion moulders, and public analysts have made known their views. Personally, this represents my second piece on the subject matter. There is no doubt that the CJN erred with respect to lack of proper declaration of his assets as required by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) Law. In this regards, the CJN feigned of ignorance and mistakes is untenable under the law, and this the number one Chief Law Officer in the land should not only be aware of but also understood it. This is because ignorance is not excuse under the law. Ordinarily, since the admittance of mistakes and ignorance by the CJN, if

Atiku in America & The Conspiracy Theories

Without any iota of equivocation, I'm the last person to applaud the traveling of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to the United States of America on account of lack of its corollary beneficial effect to the average man on the streets. A testament to this can be found  in my earlier write up on the subject on this blog and my o ther social media accounts. Be that as it may, I felt amused and nauseated by the various conspiracy theories that have gritted his travel to the United States. One of such theories is that he was listed as part of the delegations of the Senate President- Senator Bukola Saraki. There is another one which says he was listed as an aide to the Senate President. What a balderdash! As a student of International Law, one of the basic principles of Law, I was espoused to is - par parem non habet imperium which means a sovereign cannot be subjected to the sovereignty of another sovereign. It is on this basis that Diplomatic Immunity are given to Ambassadors and other senior

ATIKU IN AMERICA: So, What the Fuss?

Image
I'm kind of bewildered and disturbed at the jubilations and celebrations that have been displayed by the Atikulators and the People Democratic Party over the news of their presidential candidate: Alhaji ATIKU Abubakar. To me, it is the height of nonsense, mental paralysis, political jingoism, and mundane display of affection. How on Earth do a people celebrate the traveling of a presidential candidate to America as an achievement? It is nothing  but a demonstration of colonial mentality. Without taking it away from the USA as the most powerful nation in the world despite rogue tendencies of their current President, the truth is, there are many burning issues that should occupy the front burners of our national politics and polity than the ability of a presidential candidate to travel abroad. Will the traveling of Atiku bring down the inflationary rate? Will it reduce the number of unemployed graduates on the streets? Will it lead to the growth of GDP and GNP? Will

POLL without PVC

Nigeria indeed is a funny country. We complain year-in year-out about the deplorable State of the economy, and of the infrastructures without doing something about it. We have become a nation of complainers and not of doers. Almost every Nigerian has the solution to the country's problems, yet no apparent solution in sight. The 2019 General Election is around the corner, but how many eligible voters have their Permanent Voter's Cards handy? As at today, out of the over 80 million registered voters, less than 40 million people have collected their Voter's cards. What this means is that over 50% of the registered voters are about to disenfranchise themselves in the forthcoming election. This is asides those who are qualified, but who failed to register for their Permanent Voter's Cards. Consequently, the next election will be decided by the minority while the majority and indeed all of us will bear the consequences of our actions and inactions. P

2019 - A YEAR OF DECISION

2019 - A YEAR OF DECISION Dear friends, I'm happy you made it to 2019. It is a rare privilege, and I do hope you won't take it for granted. Many people wished and prayed to see this day, but were not able to see it. It therefore becomes important that we make the year counts. The law of motion says: everything remains in a state of rest until it is moved. What this means is that everything we wish or have prayed for this year will require our inputs. In simple term, do you want more money, and you are in paid employment. You may need to ask for a raise in your place of work, and if your employer won't do that despite being convinced you are giving your best, don't hesitate to change your job. Alternatively, you may need to do side hustle if your job permits. Better still, you may quit to start your business. Are you in a toxic relationship or you don't even have a reliable partner, yet you would like to marry this year, encourage your partner to change, and if
