A CASE OF TWO DRIVERS: AVOID SELF DEFEAT!

Image
A fortnight ago, I put up a vacancy advert for one of our clients who had a specific need for a driver. Several people applied but only two candidates turn up for our interview. Fortunately, both candidates were suitable for the job; so I was a bit finding it difficult whom I was to give the job. Towards the end, one of the drivers heard me discussing traveling the next day, so he volunteered to drive me down. It was an inter-state journey at little or no cost. I said no need, but he persisted. The rest is history, we traveled together.  Ordinarily, I was tempted to give the volunteer  the job, but I wanted to give both candidates a chance. Thus, I referred both of them to the clients, told both of them the time of the appointment, and promised to send the address to them. Unfortunately, I deleted the message of the guy who I didn't travel with on my phone. Thus, if I were to reach him, I've to go to the office which was a bit practically difficult for me, as I had to m...

MAKING THIS YEAR COUNT

Image
Good morning guys, and Happy New Year to you. Let me officially welcome you to the year 2020. It's my sincere prayer that this year will be our best of years on Earth so far. Guys, the year 2020 is on the move, are we on the move too? 24 hours is gone. We've less than 365 days in the year.  While we are still in its festivities, lots are happening already. People are making billions of dollars already. Sincerely, I agree that your concern should not be about others but yourself. However, have you thought of what to do to make this year count? I'm not in a position to tell you what to do, but I think if you do the following things this year, you stand a chance to make the year 2020 counts. 1. Dream greatly. Set unbelievable aspirations for yourself in every facet of your life. Don't set your goals on your present realities. Forget about the cliche: 'if wishes were horses, beggars would ride'. Let your dreams make you laugh at the seemly impossibility but g...

ON THE WHEEL

ON THE WHEEL Oftentimes, when I'm on the wheel driving, I found myself making best and accurate decisions that ensure I got to my destinations at best of time with little or no stress. Sometimes, it could mean staying on a particular lane or taking a route by instinct. At such times, I feel like the best driver in the world, and why shouldn't I be, since that is our core message at *Driveria*.  Unfortunately, today was not one of such days. I was supposed to drive straight through a road, but on sighting the traffic ahead, I swerved to an alternative road which was supposed to be free of traffic, but alas, I was dead wrong. I ended up spending one hour plus for a journey of at most ten minutes,no matter the traffic involved in the straight road. As I sat back this night, I wonder how many of us try to cheat life by choosing supposedly the easy path, but ended up having our fingers burnt. As I drove through those traffic, I became tired and got angry such that I practically beca...

OUR WORLD OUR PRIDE

Our World, Our Pride Today, let me think and act like the environmentalist. No! Everyday, you and I must think and act like the environmentalists. Our Planet is in imperil. We have put the Mother Earth in danger for this generation born and unborn. We are daily harming the world we called our own. You say how? For every wrap of sweet I carelessly throw away on the road from the window of my moving vehicle, and the wrap of biscuits you tossed away from those commercial buses. We harmed the Earth. Whenever I knowingly fell a tree for farming cultivation, and you cut down the trees to build the foundation of your house without planting other ones, we harmed the world for humanity. The world is in danger from every bursted exhaust pipe of my vehicle left unrepaired, and the toxic smoke from your generator at home. We knowingly put the world in tumoil by such acts, and we die daily from such self-inflicted woes. Collectively we are harming the world, yes, you and I by building houses...

MANAGING SELF-DOUBT

MANAGING SELF-DOUBT The greatest threat to what we can become, what we are capable of doing, or better still, what we can make out of our existence is not people's doubt about us, but our doubt about ourselves. Whether you have had a perfect straight wins throughout life, or your paths have been roughed, there comes a time, problem will present itself as insummountable and challenges unconquerable. At such moment, two things come to mind: to  walk away (perhaps, to live and fight another day) or to stay and face the problem head-on. I tell you, the easiest way is to walk away, to throw in the towel in pursuit of more easy tasks or way of life. Very few, and I repeat, very few people stay at such moments. Friends, I don't know what you are passing through today as a professional or entrepreneur, never give up because the old cliche: quitter never win and winners never quit is as relevant today as it was before the birth of Christ, the Messiah. Greatness are for champions. S...

POOR GOVERNANCE BREEDS CRIMINALITY

POOR GOVERNANCE BREEDS CRIMINALITIES by Sanmi Adekola At the risk of sounding amoral to social ethos, I'm tempted to link the increasing criminals and illegal activities in Nigeria today to poor governance. Before you crucified me, let me explain myself. On my way from Church today, I was tempted to block a commercial bus driver who was passing one-way. On a second thought, I drove pass the 'Keke Napep' in front of him and took a glance at the Bus Driver. The guy looked at me, and attributed his decision to pass one way to poor state of the road of which I cannot but agree with him. I shook my head and drove past him. I know there are hundreds of us who will say the guy should have stayed in queue like other law abiding Lagosians and that he had no excuse, sorry I begged to disagree for once. I said for once, because I'm an apostle of morality and preacher cum practictioner of the Yoruba concept of 'Omoluabi' ; but the situation in our country can make the...
